The Nvidia Shield plays the same without transcoding and measures it correctly.Ħ) Their is a minor difference in CLL/FALL for the same 4K content between the Apple TV and Nvidia Shield. Plex client on NV shield will stuck at the initial movie loading screen, and after about 15-30 seconds the plex media server will crash. Symptoms: It would not play some of the MKV files, no matter the bitrate, however, some 4k remux (up to 76Mbps bitrate in MKV format) can direct play just fine. This leads to some interesting conclusions:ġ) The Apple TV Plex app can play non HDR movies in HDR mode, while the Shield does not.Ģ) The Shield does not change the FPS of Netflix content and will always play it in 60 FPS, while the Apple TV changes it to 24 FPS.ģ) The Apple TV, even if Match Content is on, plays a 1080p movie in 4K resolution, while the Shield correctly plays in 1080p.Ĥ) The Apple TV uses BT.2020 even for BT.709 movies.ĥ) The CLL/FALL for transcoded movies via Plex on the Apple TV is wrongly measured. Connections are speed tested, no issue there. I recently got a Home Theater and use both the NVidia Shield Pro and the Apple TV 4K to play media.
